Le réalisateur britannique, Danny Boyle, annonce un retour de Trainspotting.
Lors d'une interview faite au SXSW à Austin (Texas) pour son dernier film 'Trance' (James McAvoy, Rosario Dawnson), Danny Boyle déclare à un journaliste de "The Playlist" qu'il espère faire une suite pour 2016, c'est à dire 20ans après le premier opus paru en 1996.
"This has been a long time coming. There’s always been this long term plan for ‘Trainspotting 2,’ if John can produce a decent enough script, I don’t think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back. I think they’ll wanna know that the parts are good so they don’t feel like they are letting anyone down. The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don’t disappoint people. That will be the only criteria I think. "
Il a poursuivi en expliquant que John Hodge scénariste des films Trance et La Plage, écrira le film.
Le scénario sera vaguement inspiré du roman et tournera autour d'une histoire qui embarquera nos personnages dans une combine qui leur permettra de se faire de l'argent facile en réalisant un film pornographique.
Trainspotting 2 réunira bien évidemment les acteurs de base du film :
- Ewan McGregor alias Mark « Rent-boy » Renton
- Ewen Bremner alias David « Spud »
- Murphy Jonny Lee Miller alias Simon « Sick Boy »
- Williamson Robert Carlyle alias Francis « Franco »
- Kelly Macdonald alias Diane.
